What is a notary public?

A Notary Public (or public notary) is effectively an internationally recognised senior solicitor who is authorised under the Public Notaries Act 1997 (NSW) to witness or authenticate documents for overseas use, such as:

  • Passport,
  • Power of Attorney
  • Life Declaration Form, or Life Certificate
  • Documents pertaining to overseas property sales; or
  • Commercial matters

Our Notary Service

Our principal Bruno Gelonesi has been serving as a Notary Public since 2017.

At your appointment, Bruno will check your 100 points of identification, then review the notorial act or instructions and confirm the notarial requirements for your matter.

He will also advise you if there are any further steps required for you to use the notorial certificate with his official seal, depending on which foreign country you wish to have the document recognised in.

What Bruno needs to know to advise you:

1. The country this document is for.
2. Whether the document must be sent to that country or only needs to be submitted to that country’s Consulate in Australia.
3. Whether the country is a party to the Hague Convention on Apostilles.

He can then confirm if you require an ‘Apostille’ or ‘Authentication’ for your document and can arrange the additional step for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to provide the Apostille or Authentication of our notary services pertaining to your document.

How long will it take?

If Apostile/ Authentication is not required, our notarial service appointment takes one hour.
If Apostile/ Authentication is required, please allow 3-4 days after appointment.

Notary Public Fees

A recommended scale of fees is published by the Society of Notaries.
